Hawkins Research, Inc. Hosts Annual Blood Drive

09/25/06--Hawkins Research Inc. (HRI) hosted its first blood drive on September 25, 2006. With the help of the American Red Cross, HRI was able to provide 28 pints of blood, a considerable amount for the size of the drive.

HRI has always felt the need to give back to the community. In the past, employees have taken up donations for a variety of disasters and public assistance programs. Hosting this blood drive established a consistent way for the company as a whole to help those in need.

The marketing team began planning for this drive in July, and worked closely with the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Employees were given packets of information and encouraged to invite their family and friends to the drive. Area businesses were also approached and informed that outside and walk-in donors were being accepted.

Employees who were not able to give blood supported the drive in other ways. On the day of the drive, many people helped provide cookies, cakes and juice for the canteen. Others picked up extra work to allow everyone time to give, and still others helped take photographs and welcome outside donors.

At the end of the drive, the Red Cross workers complimented HRI employees on their enthusiasm and desire to make them feel welcome. While the goal of the drive was to provide 30 pints of blood, 28 pints was considered a success. Both the Red Cross and HRI also claimed success due to the 36 people who attempted to give, and 19 first-time donors who did give.

From the success of the blood drive, HRI has decided to partner with the American Red Cross to host it as an annual event. This commitment guarantees that HRI can continue to help those in need.
